FYNE ALES ORIGINS BREWING
FORMAT: SOLD OUT
In early 2017, our friends from Italian brewery Canediguerra arranged a shipment of muscato grape must from the vineyards adjacent to their brewery to the hills of Glen Fyne. The majority of the sugar-rich juice was used in the creation of Fyne Ales' Devine, however a portion was reserved for a unique Origins Brewing blend that became Amphora, named after ancient, two-handled wine vessels.
The dessert-wine must was blended with strong and pale ale worts in a single oak barrel which was then topped up with whole, sweet cherries. Fermentation was taken care of by the barrel and fruit's native microflora, with a strong brettanomyces character evident alongside the grape and cherry fruit flavours.
Initial mixed-fruit candy sweetness gives way to earthy Brett funk with a smooth, vinous finish.
FROM THE BREWERS:
"Amphora has been a beautiful, fruity feast since day one of the brew in early 2017. It's a celebration wild ale, from the bright pink colour to the fruity winey, cherry-like and rustic aromas captured in the bottle."
Best enjoyed with rich, red meat and game dishes while sharing and comparing.
